Bicerin

YOU DESERVE A BREAK TODAY

Treat yourself with a nice comforting cup.

Bicerin (pronounced beech – eh – REEN) is a traditional, almost exclusive Torinese
beverage. It is a blend of coffee, chocolate and hot or scalded milk. What could be a better combination than that on a day when a little pick-me-up, comfort, or even celebration is needed. In some parts of Torino is can also be called bavarese which brings into play a little of the French influence. You can easily scale it down for one cup as this makes enough to share.

Ingredients
– 2 Cups Milk – whole
– 2 Cups Black Coffee – strong
– 3 oz Chocolate – Bittersweet, finely grated
– 2 TBS Sugar – or to taste

In a small saucepan, preferably one with a heavy bottom, heat milk to almost scalding, but do not let it boil. In the meantime, make the hot coffee and slowly add the grated chocolate, whisking constantly until fully melted and blended. Add the sugar and stir well to blend in. Next, slowly add the hot milk and stir in to mix well. Pour into small cups, test for sweetness, and serve hot!

NOTE: a small dollop of whipped cream on top, although not at all traditional, finishes it off nicely.

BUON MANGIATA!
