OUR QUEEN OF THE NIGHT

Night Blooming Cereus

All year long it looks like a half dead plant. Then Wow!

It only happens once a year and for us it bloomed in late August. Miraculously our plant delighted us with two blooms this year – one week apart.  You never know when it will happen, so you just watch patiently everyday until you start to notice a little action in the bud. Our plant is right outside our family room door in the enclosed porch so on the anticipated night we left the door open to the porch and peeked out often.

Miraculously we smelled the fragrance from the bloom and that told us it was opening. What a treat as it dramatically unraveled itself into a full bloom that treated us for a few hours. And then just as miraculously it sadly folded up and by the first signs of daylight it had died.

But it surely was worth the wait.
