Let me tell you about this absolutely charming port of Honfleur! Which we recently had the pleasure of visiting. Nestled at the easternmost tip of the beautiful ‘Côte Fleurie,‘ this picturesque spot is surrounded by lovely coastal towns like Trouville, Deauville, and Cabourg. One of the most enchanting places to wander is the oldest part of town, known as the Enclos, which lies between the Quai Saint-Etienne and the Quai de la Tour.
Strolling through the narrow, winding streets of Honfleur feels like stepping back in time, giving you a real sense of what life was like before Louis XIV decided to expand the port in the 17th century. Although much of the original area was transformed to create a new harbor, known as the ‘Vieux Bassin,’ you can still see fragments of its past, like the 15th-century Lieutenance next to the old gateway.

Around the Quai Sainte-Catherine, you’ll find the charming houses dating back to the 17th century—perfect places to relax over a meal or a drink while soaking up the picturesque atmosphere. Just nearby, don’t miss the stunning wooden Church of St. Catherine, where you can admire some beautiful works by Impressionist artist Eugène Boudin. There’s even a museum dedicated to his work, which also features pieces by Monet, who loved visiting Honfleur.
And for those who don’t mind a little climb, head up to the 17th-century chapel on Mont Joli, trust me, the views from up there are positively worth it!
